Universal Tester for Electric Bikes and Scooters

This universal tester is compatible with electric bikes and scooters featuring brushless motors and Hall sensors. It works with 24V, 36V, 48V, 60V, and 72V systems and allows for quick and precise testing of the controller, Hall sensors, motor, and throttle.

Tester Connections:

  • First group (left) – throttle (red = +5V, blue = signal, black = GND)
  • Second group – motor phase wires (yellow, green, blue)
  • Third group – motor Hall sensor (red = +5V, yellow/green/blue = signal, black = GND)
  • Fourth group – controller phase output (yellow, green, blue)
  • Fifth group – controller Hall sensor (red = +5V, yellow/green/blue = signal, black = GND)

Motor Phase Wire Testing Procedure:

  1. With the tester OFF, connect only the 3 motor phase wires to the tester.
  2. Rotate the motor forward (for freewheel motors, rotate the wheel backward manually).
  3. Check that all LEDs blink. If all LEDs blink, verify the sequence from left to right.

Hall Sensor and Motor Wire Testing Procedure:

  1. Connect only the Hall sensor connector to the tester. On some brushless motors, removing the white plastic connector may be necessary.
  2. With the tester ON, rotate the motor forward.
  3. Check that all LEDs blink in the correct sequence (left → right).

Controller Testing Procedure:

  1. Connect the throttle to the controller.
  2. Connect the controller’s phase and Hall wires to the tester.
  3. Connect the battery to the controller.
  4. Turn on the tester and check the 5V LED in the center of the rotation LED circle.
  5. If the 5V LED does not light up, the controller is not supplying proper voltage to the Hall sensors.
  6. Slowly rotate the throttle and check that the opposite LEDs light up and rotate accordingly.

Throttle Testing Procedure:

  1. Connect the throttle to the tester.
  2. With the tester ON, check if the throttle LED is green.
  3. Rotate the throttle fully; the LED should change from green → off → red (fully open).
  4. If the LED does not change, the throttle or wires may be defective.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • A Hall sensor LED does not light up: the sensor or wire is defective.
  • The 5V LED does not light: the controller’s 5V supply is defective, or the red/black Hall wire is broken.
  • The phase LEDs do not light: a phase wire is broken, or the motor’s internal contact is faulty.
  • Phase LEDs light in reverse (right → left): the sequence can be corrected by matching the Hall and phase wires properly for the motor and controller.
  • Phase LEDs seem to blink simultaneously: due to wheel speed or geared motor; the important thing is that all LEDs light up.
  • Throttle is defective: LEDs do not follow the Green → Off → Red sequence on full rotation.
