30V 4A DC-DC Buck-Boost Lab Power Supply – Precise Voltage and Current Control in a Compact Module

Working on a project that requires different voltages for various testing stages? Or perhaps you need to power circuits with varying requirements without constantly swapping your power supply? This DC-DC buck-boost converter provides any voltage between 0.5V and 30V with a stable 3A current—all packed into a compact 79mm module.

Note: A stable continuous current of 3A is guaranteed. Reaching 4A is possible with additional active cooling (an external fan is recommended). The maximum power output without a fan is 35W; with active cooling, this can be increased to 50W.

Why choose this model? (Key Advantages):

  • Integrated Buck-Boost Topology — Step up or step down your input voltage without needing extra modules, covering all your needs from 0.5V to 30V in one unit.
  • High-Resolution Display (0.01V / 0.001A) — Monitor your voltage and current with precision. You can also track power (W), capacity (Ah), and time (h) in real-time.
  • 7-Way Active Protection — Includes under-voltage, over-voltage, over-current, over-power, over-capacity, timeout, and over-temperature protection. The output disconnects automatically to keep your components safe.
  • ~88% Efficiency — High efficiency keeps heat generation low, ensuring stable operation at 35W under normal conditions without the need for a fan.
  • On-Board Calibration — Easily correct voltage and current readings directly via the menu if they deviate from your multimeter, with no external tools required.
  • Arduino & Raspberry Pi Ready — Perfect for 3.3V–5V circuits. Simply set your voltage before connecting to prevent accidental damage to your sensitive electronics.

Performance and Specifications

The module accepts an input voltage between 5V and 30V DC. To achieve maximum power, a minimum input of 8V is required; at 5V, power is limited to approximately 15W. The buck-boost design allows the output to be higher or lower than the input, offering significant flexibility over standard buck or boost converters. The Under-Voltage Protection (LUP) is set to 4.8V by default, ensuring the output cuts off automatically if your power source drops too low.

Programming and Usage Instructions

  1. Display Modes: In normal mode, press the SW button to toggle between voltage (V), current (A), power (W), capacity (Ah), and time (h). Long-press SW to switch between input (IN) and output (OUT) voltage.
  2. Setting Output Voltage: Press U/I to enter voltage settings. The active digit will flash. Rotate the encoder to adjust the value and press it briefly to switch digits. Press U/I twice or wait 10 seconds to exit.
  3. Setting Constant Current: From normal mode, press U/I to access the maximum output current setting. Adjust using the rotary encoder as you would for voltage.
  4. Default Power-On State: Long-press U/I to toggle whether the module output is enabled (OPEN ON) or disabled (OPEN OFF) by default upon power-up.
  5. Configuring Protections: Long-press U/I to enter the protection menu. Use SW to select the desired protection (LUP, OUP, OCP, OPP, OAP, OHP, OTP), then adjust thresholds and toggle them on or off individually.
  6. Calibration: Access the calibration interface (CAL) via the U/I menu. Calibrate input voltage, output voltage, and current against a reference multimeter for maximum accuracy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use this as an adjustable power supply for Arduino or Raspberry Pi?

Yes. The module provides stable voltages between 0.5V and 30V, including 3.3V and 5V. Always set the correct voltage before connecting your device to avoid over-voltage damage.

Is a cooling fan mandatory?

Not for standard use. Below 35W and 3A, natural cooling is sufficient. If you are operating at 4A or running high-power loads for extended periods, we recommend an external fan to prevent the OTP (Over-Temperature Protection) from triggering.

Does it function as both a step-up and step-down converter?

Yes. The buck-boost topology allows the output voltage to be higher or lower than the input. For example, you can generate both 5V and 24V from a 12V source without changing the module.

What happens if the input voltage drops below 4.8V?

The LUP (Under-Voltage Protection) will automatically cut the output. The default threshold is 4.8V, but this can be adjusted in the menu to suit your specific power source.

Can I calibrate the module if the display doesn’t match my multimeter?

Yes. The CAL function in the menu allows you to fine-tune the input voltage, output voltage, and current readings using your own multimeter as a reference.
